I am interested in the position business development manager and have the proven skills and experience but more importantly the drive to achieve in this kind of role.
The roles that I have most excelled in have been where I represent a manufacture or a specific brand and can immerse myself in the product. By understanding all aspects of the product I am representing I am able to present solutions to the client base with confidence that it will meet their requirements.
For example, in my role at IndigoVision I entered into a business with declining sales in Australia. My first years target was USD1.5M, which I exceeded by 8%. (The previous year’s declining sales being USD700K.) I exceeded the following years target of USD2.5K by 38%, despite the global financial crisis and weak Australian dollar. In the annual sales meeting in Scotland I was awarded for being the second highest salesperson in the world for both turnover and margin. In the third year, I had grown my territory (All of ANZ) sufficiently to accommodate an additional BDM and had the territory divided with a combined target of USD4.5M. Similarly, in my role at Rexel Video systems I worked in a team of 3 to grow the turnover of the Adelaide branch from $600K to $3.5M over a period of 6 years. Both roles involved me identifying opportunities, proactively seeking out new customers, and coordinating and running sales / training functions. I attribute the majority of my success to my complete technical product knowledge of the product range, responsiveness and commitment to deliver what I promise to my clients. Many of the clients I have built a relationship with have stuck with me through my various roles over the past 16 years and have provided excellent testimonials as can be seen in my resume.
My contact base in both commercial and trade sectors is very strong and includes over 2000 Australian Linkedin members in addition to my thousands of contacts in my own CRM, many of whom have been trusting in my advice for over 16 years, which is testament to the relationships I build. I have worked with a large number of clients within government, policing defence and schooling sectors but there are equally as many in the construction and electrical industries.
As mentioned previously, I have a proven track record for achieving KPI’s and ability to communicate, present and negotiate. However, as I felt that my prospecting skills were lacking, in 2014 I funded myself through the Lead Australia sales management program and have experienced a significant improvement in my confidence of cold calling, asking for referrals and negotiating.
